What is Local Law 152?

Local Law 152 of 2016 is a gas safety law enacted by the New York City Council requiring the periodic inspection of exposed gas piping systems in all buildings except for one- and two-family homes. This law was developed to reduce the risk of gas leaks and improve the overall safety of city residents by identifying hazards early and ensuring gas systems remain in good working condition.

Who Must Comply?

All property owners in NYC with buildings that contain gas piping systems (excluding 1- and 2-family homes) must comply with LL152. Inspections must be conducted by a Licensed Master Plumber (LMP) or a qualified individual working under the direct supervision of an LMP.

Inspection Schedule

Buildings are inspected once every four years on a staggered schedule determined by Community Districts.
